Higher education providers play an increasingly critical role in social and economic prosperity across the globe. In a fast changing world that sees education being redefined to benefit individual learners with the support of highly personalized learning strategies, there is a growing emphasis on a more data informed approach to planning, the execution of strategic choice and realisation of opportunity, as well as the harnessing of emerging infrastructure and technologies such as 5G network, AI, robotics, IoT, AR/VR, etc, to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning.  And thanks to 5G technology, a cyber space that can be expected to be free of latency and delay for highly engaging learning experience is never as close to us as it is today.

Today, higher education institutions around the world are comprehensively exploring how to transform education for the future with next generation technologies. But, do we have the right skills, capabilities, systems and processes to make the most of this future – and do we know what success in this increasingly technological world looks like? How do we make sure that we are not disoriented in the fast changing world of technologies but are instead empowered to harness technologies to make education even more powerful?  

On this foundation, the theme for the 2020 HEPA forum is:

“The Impact of Emerging Technologies and Competencies for Higher Education of the Future”

The impact of emerging technologies is wide and far reaching.  Graduates will need new skills to thrive in the industries and institutions of higher learning will have to prepare their graduates for enhanced employability.  At the same time, administrators and educators alike may go about their daily work more efficiently and effectively with capabilities to leverage emerging technologies, made possible in a conducive environment brought about by progressive and supportive leadership and culture. 

The forum will explore how to strategize and plan for a well-governed framework for education of the future, one that embraces emerging technologies to make the operation (which includes teaching and learning) of our higher learning institutions more efficient and effective, as well as to groom graduates who are well versed with emerging technologies to stay relevant in the fast evolving industries.
