Emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, AR/VR/MR, etc, are poised to impact significantly on the operation of institutes of higher learning on many fronts, be it teaching methodologies, learners experience, security (both physical and digital), and operational excellence.
While blockchain technology can be leveraged for verifications and secured storage of academic credentials, data analytics and AI can be utilised for better informed decision making in many areas such as admissions and student performance monitoring while IoT (Internet of Things) can play a critical role in enhancing energy savings and security for an institute. In fact, there are myriad ways how emerging technologies can be employed in the operation of institutes of higher learning.
The theme for this year’s Forum is to explore how universities may embrace emerging technologies to enhance their
- Learner’s experience including technologies associated with teaching and student support
- Planning for the future including physical, digital, data and biological worlds
- Operational efficiency of IHL
while mitigating the risks brought about by these technologies. The data governance required for decision-making. The ethical and societal implications that may arise from the deployment of emerging technologies are also to be addressed.
